Segorbe, Valencia, October 6, 1907.

Very early in the morning. Lola, her brother-in-law, three nephews and pregnant sister, Maria, left their house at Segorbe and headed towards Cadiz harbor in southwestern Spain.

In a few days, the vessel of the Compañía Transatlántica Española was to set sail to the New World, taking her only family away from her.

That night, while Lola was kissing her family good-bye, Maria started to go into labor.  The maritime hostel room was filled with uncertainty.  At dawn, a fateful scream announced the death of mother and child.

Three days after the funeral, Lola, her brother-in-law and the three children embarked to America.

Maria’s sons grew up, were successful, and married three sisters in Mexico City.  In the 1940’s, Lola was the head of one of the family businesses, The Hat Factory. Very close to it, in the new Roma District, her nephews built a rationalist style home for her.
