Walter Orrin, owner of a famous circus, was also well known for his progressive ideas for Mexico City. At the beginning of the 20th Century, he bought the paddocks close to the Romita village to build a luxury urban development. The Mexican cities where his spectacles were so enthusiastically applauded inspired the street names of his fast-growing Roma District.
Instead of repeating the Spanish architectural tradition, at the streets of Cordoba, Orizaba and Baja California, the wealthy families of the Porfirian Era built their mansions following the Anglo Saxon and French models.
Today the famous colonia Roma is one of the most attractive and vibrant neighborhoods of Mexico City. Its worldly cultural corridor includes renowned art galleries and cultural centers. There you can also find a vivacious urban night-life, traditional markets and simple Mexican fondas, together with fashionable bars and international food restaurants.
